Grilling is as much a part of summer as Christmas gingerbread. Barbecuing has to be easy and of course you can do that very well in your own garden. But which grill do I use?

If you are still undecided, take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of gas, charcoal and electrical in a direct comparison. In addition to the price and taste aspects, your personal preference should always decide which grill will ultimately be in your garden. After all, it is you who should use the grill later and enjoy it.

Barbecue with charcoal

The classic and therefore still the most popular way to grill delicious meat and vegetables is charcoal. The unmistakable fragrance and above all the smoky taste is simply part of it for many.

... these are the advantages:

  • The grill can easily be set up anywhere.
  • No knowledge of assembly necessary, as most of them are already pre-assembled.
  • Low purchase price: disposable models are available from 5 euros.
  • The selection of charcoal grills is very large (various sizes and shapes).
  • The grillage can be adjusted according to your own needs.
  • The grilled food impresses with its excellent taste.

... and the disadvantages

  • In gardens, there may be trouble with the neighbors because of the smoke.
  • Patience is required: it takes at least 30 to 40 minutes from lighting to the actual barbecue.
  • You have to “set” the right grill temperature yourself with the appropriate amount of coal and sensitivity.
  • Cooking fat dripping into the embers can be harmful to your health.
  • The grill must be cleaned by hand (remove ash, clean rust).

Grilling with an electric grill

An alternative to smoke-heavy Charcoal grill is the electric grill. Even without steam and open embers, delicious grilled food can be “gnawed”.

  • You can grill outdoors and indoors.
  • No smoke nuisance to neighbors.
  • Ready for immediate use, as it is usually delivered in one piece.
  • Desired temperature immediately available and adjustable at the push of a button: no waiting time.
  • Easy to clean if there is a grease drip tray and non-stick coating (depending on the model).

... and the disadvantages

  • For grilling in the garden (outdoors) rather unsuitable, because socket and electricity are required.
  • No intense smoky taste compared to charcoal grill.
  • The "open fire feeling" is missing.
  • Grill area, i.e. rust, often much smaller.

Grilling on the gas grill / lava stone grill

The gas grill is slowly outpacing the ever-popular charcoal grill. It is operated with gas cartridges that are independent of a power source.

  • Fast ignition at the push of a button (spark transmission)
  • Precise control of the grill temperature.
  • Even heating of the food to be grilled at every point on the gas grill.
  • In addition to meat and vegetables, cakes and desserts can also be prepared in the gas grill.
  • Almost no smoke.

... and the disadvantages

  • Depending on the model, it takes up a lot of space.
  • There must always be enough gas available (provide a spare bottle).
  • Less mobile, especially with large gas grill trucks.
  • Simple models are often difficult to clean.
  • Fairly high purchase value (at least 200 euros and up).
